Niels has developed IBM i middleware used in numerous applications worldwide. He is the architect of the IceBreak application server for IBM i. Over the years he has contributed to the IBM i community with presentations, demos, and loads of open source: ILEastic and noxDB to name a few projects. IT Transformation, modernization and tools around this process is his passion and he moves anything from 5250 into an era of microservices and containers. At the same time, he is also a member of CEAC and is an IBM Champion – 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023

The SQL-PL language is extremely powerful and can be accessed from almost any platform and integrated in all IBM i languages: RPG, Node.js, Python. This is why SQL-PL these years are used more and more as the preferred universal language in IT transformation projects.

In this session we will cover the basics from simple functions and procedures and move forward with advanced features like table functions (UDTF) that produces and consumes JSON and using the build in API’s on IBM i – the SQL services.
Db2 has changed over the years to a different kind of animal. From a simple database that handles only tables, columns and rows to a complete ecosystem of structured and unstructured data and even procedural programming.
